The Knowledge Exchange Network for the Sight Loss Sector has been set up to help professionals generating and using research and information on sight loss. Here you will find out what the network can offer you and how to join. This section also contains learning and presentations from network events.
The network has grown out of a partnership between RNIB, Thomas Pocklington Trust, and NatCen Social Research, with the support of the Economic and Social Research Council.
By joining the network you will receive email updates from RNIB’s Knowledge Hub alerting you to the latest news and events relating to sight loss research and information.
RNIB’s Knowledge and Research Hub is a central part of the network continuing to offer you access to up-to-date sight loss research and information together in one place. Discover local statistical information on our Sight Loss Data Tool, read evidence-based reviews, impact measurement guidance and statistical summaries.
In addition, we will invite you to join our new KEN LinkedIn Group – which connects professionals generating and using research and information together to share ideas, articles and findings online.
We’ll also be running events to bring together researchers and practitioners to learn about emerging themes, publications and debate ideas.
It’s easy to join. Just email your name, organisation and job title to email@example.com with the subject line ‘Join network’.
We organise free network events for members throughout the year. Below you can find out about upcoming events, and access presentations and learning from past events.
In November RNIB’s annual Research and Practice Day brought together a diverse group to focus on early interventions to provide support for people experiencing sight loss. The day included the experiences of people who’ve been on the journey, new research on impact and incidence of depression; a number of practice developments; and an international perspective from the Netherlands. A report, sharing the highlights, and presentations from the day can be found below.
On 25 November 2015 the network hosted an event in London. The presentations from that day are below.
On March 9 2015 the network hosted an event in London which looked at large scale surveys and how they can give us really useful information about the position of children and adults with sight loss, compared to the wider population. We shared and discussed the latest findings from the Millennium Cohort Study, The Labour Force Survey, Understanding Society and Life Opportunities Surveys and the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. This information can inform campaigns, service delivery and fundraising. Below you can download the presentations and the event report:
In October 2014 the network met to learn about and discuss issues on the theme of Rehabilitation and social care. Below you can download the presentations.
We ran a series of network events across the UK in 2014. Here are the presentations from those events.
